Before starting my own business, I worked as an Appliance Sales Team Leader at Best Buy from 1986 to 1987. It was in 1987 that I began BIR Construction, focusing on residential high-end remodels where we had projects ranging from small upgrades to contracts worth $1 million. In 2000, BIR was honored to be included in the top 100 remodeling companies nationally, and by 2001, the company had completed over $6 million in project work.
In 2001, Diversified Construction recruited me to be their Residential General and Sales Manager, where I remained for two years while also doing independent consulting work locally. As a consultant, I provided designing and planning services to other construction companies focused on organized growth. Between 2003 and 2008, I joined Austin Remodel as the Manager of Business, Sales, Design and Projects.
In 2008, I met with Todd Johnson, a longtime friend, to discuss his business, Titus Construction, Inc. This was a rough time for the construction industry as the housing market fell apart. I joined Todd to assist in navigating these rough waters, and with the help of my wife Suzanne and Todd's project manager, Lee Lawrence, we identified solutions to our biggest roadblocks and started Titus Contracting.
Unfortunately, Todd was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, and we lost him the following year. Suzanne and Lee reorganized the company, and I was ready to lead the charge. Eventually, I was named President of the company. Together, we have grown the company from our three-person team at the beginning to an organization doing over $6 million in revenue in 2021.
